How to Convert to Natural Gas
Switching to natural gas is easy. And the investment you make will quickly be recovered through the savings you'll see.
Following are a few of the steps you may experience when you request to connect natural gas to your home:
- Service Line Installation - Minnesota Energy Resources provides a portion of the service line — the pipe that runs between the gas main and meter. If additional portions of service line are needed, you will be responsible for the charge. Contact Minnesota Energy Resources at 800-889-9508 to discuss your options and costs.
- Excess Flow Valve - Minnesota Energy Resources installs an Excess Flow Valve (EFV) on all new residential gas service lines. This valve is designed to limit the flow of natural gas automatically if a service line is severed.
- Re-piping, Correcting Safety Hazards and Converting Appliances to Natural Gas - Minnesota Energy Resources encourages you to select a contractor who follows all code requirements when converting to natural gas.
- Heating Equipment Estimates - Minnesota Energy Resources suggests getting two or three estimates when considering the replacement of your furnace.
