After home heating, water heating is the second largest natural gas user in your home. Upgrading to a more efficient water heater can reduce your natural gas use and help the environment. We recommend that you work with your contractor or retailer to select the water heater that will best fit your needs.

These rebates are not intended for new construction. New construction is defined as being built in the last two years.

EF: Energy Factor

UEF: Uniform Energy Factor

Please reference all rebate requirements prior to installation to ensure eligibility.

Notice: Starting June 12, 2017, the Department of Energy (DOE) implemented new energy efficiency standards for water heaters. The old metric was Energy Factor, or EF. The new metric is UEF or Uniform Energy Factor. They are not the same.

Because the UEF metric new, customers may purchase a water heater that was certified with an EF rating criteria. Models that were rated with EF will be honored in our rebate program through 12/31/2017. After this date, all rebates will be issued based on the AHRI database certification UEF criteria.

After the qualifying system is installed, work with your contractor to complete and submit the water heating rebate application. Indirect water heaters are not eligible for rebate.

Funding is limited and can change or end at any time. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The program application must be received within 60 days of installation.

If you are a nonprofit, new construction organization such as a Community Housing Development Authority, Housing Development Agency or Habitat for Humanity serving the low-income community, Minnesota Energy Resources supports your community efforts with enhanced rebates through low income new construction rebates.
